Your Body Is a Magnet. Are You Sleeping Against Its Natural Polarity?

We spend so much time thinking about the comfort of our mattress or the quality of our pillows, but have you ever considered the direction in which you sleep? There is an ancient proverb that says, “What is present in the universe is also present in the body.” I believe this is profoundly true. All the powers of the universe are present in our body, and this includes magnetic power.

Understanding this simple but powerful concept is, in my view, the key to unlocking your most peaceful and restorative sleep. It turns out, the direction you point your head at night matters immensely.

Your Body's Internal Compass

I believe our body functions like a magnet. The upper part of our body, above the navel, acts as a North Pole. The lower part of our body, below the navel, acts as a South Pole. We all know the basic rule of magnets: like poles repel each other. You cannot force two North poles to come together. But opposite poles attract.

Now, let's apply this to our sleep. The Earth itself is a giant magnet. If we lie down with our head pointed towards the geographic North, we are creating a conflict. The North pole of our body (our head) and the North pole of the Earth’s magnet do not attract each other. They repel.

Throughout the entire night, this magnetic repelling action keeps happening. As a result, we cannot sleep peacefully. Our blood circulation will not be properly streamlined. This constant, invisible battle can lead to diseases in the body. Therefore, my firm advice is that we should not lie down with our head in the North direction.

The Path to Peaceful Sleep: Aligning with the South

So, what is the best direction? If we lie down with our head in the South direction, our body’s North Pole (our head) and the Earth's South Pole will attract each other. There is no conflict. There is only harmony.

When this happens, we will get a deep and peaceful sleep. So, it is a very good idea to sleep with our head pointed toward the South.

This magnetic principle is even at play during pregnancy. When a child is in the womb, the mother’s magnetic North pole is above her navel. The child's head, which is its North pole, is also facing up. But during the tenth month, just before birth, a change happens in the child's magnetic orientation. Its North pole flips. Immediately when this change happens, the child’s head (its North pole) is repelled by the mother's North and attracted to her South, and it turns down towards her legs. This is what is called the “turning of the child’s head.” It is a beautiful example of this magnetic law in action.

The Dangers of the Bare Floor

There is one more simple rule for restful sleep that we must follow. We should not lie down on the bare floor.

Our body’s temperature is a constant 37 degrees Centigrade. If we lie down on the bare floor, the coolness of the ground will start to pull our body’s temperature down. In response, our body will be forced to work overtime, using up its saved sugar (glycogen) and oxygen to increase its temperature and fight the cold. The lungs will be forced to work more.

As a result of this unnecessary work, I believe there is a possibility of getting diseases such as wheezing and asthma. Therefore, we should never lie down on the bare floor. Always spread a bedspread or a blanket and then lie down over it. This same rule applies when we do exercises such as meditation or yoga; we should never do them on the bare floor.

By respecting these two simple, natural laws—the law of magnetism and the law of temperature—we can protect our body from unnecessary stress and enjoy the deep, healing sleep we all deserve.
